Has there ever been a better example of how a true warrior should live then Jesus? He had everything. He was at the right hand of the Father from the beginning, yet he gave it all up. He became man, humbled himself and fought for us though we did not deserve it. He made the ultimate sacrifice , giving his life so that we could have eternal life. My Lord did fought for my soul with every measure of strength he had. How could I not give all I have for Him?
Throughout the Bible, time and again God chooses a “nobody” to do great things. There is no better example of this than David. He was the youngest of his family, performing the lowliest of jobs – a shepherd. Yet God chose him to be King of Israel because ” he was a man after God’s own heart”.
David faced Goliath with a rock and a sling when the whole Israelite army cowered in fear. David withstood Saul’s jealous persecution, twice resisting the temptation to kill Saul when he had the chance because it was not the right thing to do. He was a true man of God until he stopped fighting for God and became idle. Then temptation took hold of him and he sinned. Yet unlike Samson, who waited until the end of his life to reconcile with God, David repented and asked God’s forgiveness.
You don’t have to be rich, powerful, or brilliant for God to use you. All you have to be is humble and obedient. You will make mistakes but God will forgive you and never abandon you if you just keep pushing on to the finish.
Joshua has always been one of my favorite characters in the Bible. No matter what he faced, his faith in God never wavered. And because of his steadfast faith, he was one of only two from the Israelites enslaved in Egypt to enter the promised land. God can move mountains or topple walls for us if we have faith like Joshua’s.
Boaz gives us gives us a great example of how we are to care for widows and those less fortunate than us. He is also a reflection of Christ. His redemption of Ruth points to Jesus’ redemption of us.
It is easy to identify with Gideon. How often does God prove himself again and again in our lives, yet we still ask for another sign before we commit ourselves to him. If we could just remember what he has done for us in the past, we would save ourselves much pain.
